  7. Thank you for downloading the virus definition update for Norton
  8. AntiVirus version 3.0.  This text file describes the contents of
  9. the .ZIP file and installation procedure.
  10.  
  11. If your version of Norton AntiVirus 3.0 for Windows and DOS is dated 
  12. before 6-23-94, you will need to update it using the NAV August Patch
  13. in order to detect the SMEG (Pathogen and Queeg) and Natas viruses. If 
  14. you have not updated your version, download the NAV August Patch from 
  15. the Symantec BBS, CompuServe, or America Online. The file is called 
  16. NAVUP.ZIP and is located where the monthly update files are normally 
  17. found. Alternately, you may call Customer Service at (800)331-7234 to 
  18. obtain the NAV August Patch disk.

  23. All contents of this file have been scanned by Norton AntiVirus 
  24. 3.0 and are free from virus infection. The virus definition and 
  25. repair data included with this update are for use by Norton 
  26. AntiVirus 3.0 only. The virus definitions and repair data will 
  27. not work with any other software or any earlier version of Norton 
  28. AntiVirus. If you experience any trouble with this update, please 
  29. contact Norton AntiVirus Technical Support using any of the 
  30. methods listed in your user's manual.

  34. This update contains the following files:

  36. README.TXT      This text file contains instructions for 
  37.                 installing the new virus definitions.

  39. SEP94.TXT       This text file describes what's new in this update.
  40.  
  41. VIRSCAN.DAT     This data file is used by Norton AntiVirus 3.0 to
  42.                 detect and repair viruses. This file completely 
  43.                 replaces the existing virus definitions in your 
  44.                 Norton AntiVirus 3.0 directory.
  45.  
  46. VIRSCAN.INF     This data file is used by Norton AntiVirus 3.0 to 
  47.                 display virus information, such as virus
  48.                 characteristics and behavior. This file is not 
  49.                 required to detect or repair viruses. To view this
  50.                 information, use the Virus List command in the
  51.                 Tools menu.

  53. VIRLIST2.DLL    This file supports this and future Virus Definition
  54.                 updates.

  58.                      Loading New Definitions
  59.  
  60. NOTE: The new virus definition files contained in this .ZIP file
  61.       replace the corresponding Norton AntiVirus 3.0 files. Only 
  62.       the most recent virus definitions are required to fully 
  63.       update your copy of Norton AntiVirus 3.0.

  67. To update Norton AntiVirus 3.0 virus definitions:
  68.     
  69.     1. Copy VIRSCAN.DAT and VIRSCAN.INF into the Norton 
  70.        AntiVirus 3.0 directory.
  71.     
  72.     2. Scan a drive, directory, or file with Norton AntiVirus 
  73.        3.0, in either DOS or Windows.
  74.     
  75.        This will generate new interim files and update the
  76.        automatic protection TSR.
  77.     
  78.     3. Reboot your computer to load the updated automatic
  79.        protection TSR.
  80.  
  81.  TIP: If you unzipped this file inside your \NAV directory, 
  82.       (\NDW for users of Norton Desktop for Windows), then 
  83.       step 1 is already completed. If you unzipped this file
  84.       in a different directory, copy the extracted files to 
  85.       your \NAV directory.  If prompted to overwrite existing 
  86.       files, select Yes.
